Gentle Giant Moving Company is pleased to announce their recognition by the Boston Business Journal as Boston’s Healthiest Employers of 2016. Now in its sixth year, the Boston Healthiest Employers Awards shines a light on local businesses of all sizes that have made great efforts to create extraordinary Health & Wellness Programs for their employees.

The Healthiest Employer Awards Program recognizes employee focused organizations like Gentle Giant Moving & Storage that strive to create and maintain a healthy workplace and work force. Organizations apply for this acknowledgment by completing a detailed assessment tool that measures wellness programming in several categories, including culture and leadership commitment, communication and marketing, as well as the various programs and interventions available within the organization’s Health and Wellness Plan.

Since opening in 1980, Gentle Giant has advocated active and healthy lifestyles for its employees; most famously demonstrated by Founder and CEO Larry O’Toole taking new hires and longtime employees alike to the Harvard Stadium every week to run 37 flights of stairs. In the Regional Offices across the country, Gentle Giant managers have developed their own fitness challenges for new hires, including interviews being conducted during a 3 mile run in New York and running the steps behind the Lincoln Memorial in Washington DC.

“At Gentle Giant, we believe that by taking care of our staff, they’ll in turn take care of our customers,” O’Toole explains. “We take Health and Wellness seriously but have a lot of fun doing it, whether it’s on the job or at one of athletic events we attend.”

Within the company’s Somerville headquarters, employees take full advantage of all wellness programs available, including the custom designed Warehouse Gym which boasts scheduled classes for all fitness levels, a full time licensed chiropractor and personal trainer, as well as detailed progress report journals. Additionally, across Gentle Giant’s 20 nationwide locations, a Giant Health Week sponsored by the company allows employees to get free health screenings, participate in physical challenge competitions, and even get professional massages or acupuncture treatment.

Gentle Giant is always looking to hire people that have a passion for fitness, and are currently accepting applications. Call 800-442-6863 for more information.
