PowerSchool Registration Improves Processes, Parent Satisfaction, and Student Safety Standards for Jones County School District
Folsom, California (PRWEB) April 07, 2016 -- PowerSchool teams up again with Mississippi’s Jones County School District to expand its online platform by customizing an intuitive student registration solution. Implementing the solution resolves the growing concern from families who invested significant time annually filling out 25-30 sheets of paper per student. PowerSchool Registration provides the 8,500-student district with an innovative method to collect and manage student data, enabling access to vital information by the first day of school.
“In the technological age we live in, parents kept asking why they were required to fill out so much paperwork every year,” said Priscilla Sumrall, Software Specialist at Jones County School District. “It’s a very labor-intensive process for both our families and school staff. We love PowerSchool and have achieved great success with the student information system. Launching the online registration solution made sense, as the features and functionality only complement what we’re already used to experiencing as a PowerSchool user.”
The electronic format allows families who have more than one child in the district to ‘snap’ data from one student to another. SmartForm™ technology, an intuitive tool built into the solution, collects relevant data based on previously entered information or choices (grade, activities, medical history, etc.). The data submitted by families is reviewed, polished, and formatted to meet district policies and then delivered into the student information system, resulting in up-to-date records on the first day of school.
Priscilla Sumrall has a unique perspective of the student registration process as the parent of a student attending Jones County School District. “I see it from both sides—filling out a substantial amount of paperwork, and then interpreting that data to enter into our SIS. What’s extremely valuable about placing this process online is capturing accurate and imperative data, such as medical information, so that appropriate staff members have immediate access to it,” notes Sumrall.
PowerSchool Registration will be available in English and Spanish to meet the needs of this diverse population. The ability to polish student data so that it’s formatted consistently across the entire district is important for administrative staff members who compile data for state reporting. The solution will improve efficiency and create a more uniformed process.
Online student registration will be available April 7-8 to families of incoming kindergarten students. The solution will roll out to the rest of the school community in July. All parents will be notified about the new solution before the end of the school year.
Jones County School District’s Director of Technology, Patrick Robinson, adds, “Our parents have been asking for this. As we consider what gets included in the school budget, it’s hard to request spending of funds on an initiative that does not directly impact the classroom, which is always our focus. Our school board, under the leadership of Superintendent, Tommy Parker, has been very supportive of technology and also mindful of the needs of our parents. This investment accommodates parents’ request to move things online and be more functional, but also saves us resources, which in turn saves the district money.”
