ISSA Los Angeles Announces Collaborative Training Session With Araceli Treu Gomes and Ira Winkler
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 07, 2016 -- The Los Angeles Chapter of Information Systems Security Information (ISSA-LA) is pleased to announce special guest speakers Ira Winkler—often referred to as a “Modern Day James Bond”—and Dell SecureWorks threat intelligence expert, Araceli Treu Gomes. The dynamic duo will join forces on Thursday, May 19th at the Universal Hilton in Universal City, California to share their wisdom on how to apply threat intelligence to improve security awareness programs.
Their speaking engagement follows Rafal Los’ session on Enterprise Threat Intelligence, precedes the Welcome Reception that evening, and is included as part of the paid training and summit ticket purchases.
Winkler, CISSP, is President of Secure Mentem and Co-host of The Irari Report (http://www.irarireport.com). He is considered one of the world’s most influential security professionals and also won the Hall of Fame award from ISSA, as well as several other prestigious industry awards. A master in his field who has acquired names such as - “Modern Day James Bond” and more recently, “The Awareness Crusader” by CSO Magazine, Winkler obtained his reputation by impressive means, such as performing espionage simulations, where he physically and technically “broke into” some of the largest companies in the world.
“I am excited to share my experiences in defining and implementing security awareness programs around the world,” said Winkler. “In my session at ISSA LA Summit 8, I will use the Syrian Electronic Army case study to show how threat intelligence, including working with the FBI, allowed us to predict an attack along with the exact attack vectors,” said Winkler.
Gomes is Co-host of The Irari Report and serves as a Cybersecurity Strategist and Subject Matter Expert for Dell SecureWorks where she counsels global organizations on preventing advanced attacks. Previously, she held technical and leadership positions, including Strategic Security Advisor for a Fortune 100 company, Engineering Director at a large defense contractor, Deputy CSO for a multinational financial services organization, and Chief Security and Privacy Officer at a major content delivery network.
“Knowing the attackers’ methodologies allows us to tell the end users within an organization exactly what to expect during an attack, including how we should tell them,” added Gomes. “During the session, we’ll share how to incorporate threat intelligence into your security awareness programs to make the programs more engaging and more effective.”
Since ISSA-LA is all about the community, registration for the event is open to anyone interested in learning more about information security. The Information Security Summit is part of ISSA-LA’s important community outreach program. The goal of the program is to help the community stay safe from cybercrime by enabling the necessary collaboration between business and community leaders, technical IT professionals and the information security community. The session by Winkler and Gomes is spot-on with helping us achieve this goal.
