Australians in Film Chooses FluidReview as their Online Scholarship Management Solution for the Heath Ledger Scholarship
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 12, 2016 -- Australians in Film is a Los Angeles-based nonprofit run by Australian professionals from the film and television industry. The organization’s mission is to celebrate outstanding Australian filmmakers and performers working in the United States while inspiring, uniting and developing the next generation through educational and career development programs, like the Heath Ledger Scholarship.
The Heath Ledger Scholarship is named after Oscar-winning Australian actor Heath Ledger, who tragically passed away in January 2008, and who served as an ambassador for the organization. The scholarship is open to all emerging Australian actors aged 18-35 years old. The recipient receives a two year scholarship at the Stella Adler Academy of Acting and Theatre in Los Angeles, two flights on Virgin Australia, one to attend the announcement ceremony and a second flight when the winner is ready to transition their career to the United States, a 7-day Californian trip from Visit California, USD$5,000 worth of visa and immigration services from Raynor and Associates, $500 worth of Uber credit to get around LA, and USD$10,000 cash fund in order to establish themselves in Los Angeles. The Scholarship also includes mentorship from professionals in the industry.
Touchingly, each year Kim Ledger, the Patron of the scholarship, phones the winner directly to let them know of their success in the award.
“It is always such an exciting phone call to make because we know that the scholarship makes such an impact on a young performer’s career,” said Kim Ledger
Two runners up will receive a round-trip ticket to Los Angeles, where they can profile themselves in the US market, courtesy of Virgin Australia, and a scholarship to attend Masterclasses at Screenwise Film & TV School for actors in Sydney. They also get the chance to be mentored by professionals in the industry.
Winners of the scholarship have gone on to do wonderful things in the industry, Bella Heathcote can be seen in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, James McKay has starred in The Dressmaker and Oliver Ackland stars in the popular TV series The Originals.
“It’s been a really beautiful celebration of Heath’s life and his career. The scholarship’s there, but you really feel like it’s a celebration of him, and so it should be.”
-Matt Levett, Scholarship recipient – 2015
“Heath was the quintessential leading man with the career of a character actor, and that’s a dream – that’s the kind of career I aspire to and I am not alone in that.”
-James McKay, Scholarship recipient – 2013
Benefactors to the scholarship include the Ledger family, Michelle Williams, Naomi Watts, Hugh Jackman, Rose Byrne, Vince Vaughn, Liam Hemsworth, Alex O’Loughlin, Deborra-Lee Furness, Phillip Noyce, Baz Luhrmann, Catherine Martin, Gregor Jordan and Nicole Kidman.
“This event is a nice thing in the spirit of Heath to provide an opportunity for the young actors out there.”
-Vince Vaughn, actor and scholarship judge, speaking at the award ceremony last year.
