Alexander Mann Solutions Releases Global Recruiting Survey, Highlighting Today’s Talent Acquisition Best Practices to Attract and Engage Candidates

Survey results highlight trend of recruiters in the United States leveraging new tools to connect and engage with candidates

Alexander Mann Solutions, the world’s leading provider of talent acquisition and management services, and Social Talent, the world’s leading provider of recruiting learning, tools and performance analytics, today announced the results of their 2016 Global Recruiting Survey. The Survey is the second of its type conducted by the two companies, and examines how talent acquisition professionals around the world are utilizing online and social resources to find and engage with candidates.

“Our survey reveals compelling insights into how talent acquisition professionals are using social channels and messaging platforms to reach both active job seekers and passive candidates for their organizations,” says Darcy Wells, Head of Solution Design & Innovation for Alexander Mann Solutions in the Americas region. “What we found was that, while the profession continues to use more sophisticated techniques to find and reach candidates, the most effective recruiters are those who combine tech savvy with a personal touch in order to truly engage with those candidates.”

Simple tweaks to candidate engagement strategies, existing processes and sharing best practice will drive lean improvements for you and your business.”

Top Findings
In particular, the survey reveals that:

How Recruiters Find Candidates
o Hiring: The number one source for finding candidates who were ultimately hired is social media, at 37 percent of successful hires.
o LinkedIn: 97 percent of recruiters use LinkedIn to find, attract and engage talent, which is a small increase from the 2014 survey. 40 percent of respondents have more than 2,000 connections on the social media platform, while 12 percent have more than 5,000.
o Job boards: The vast majority of recruiters are using paid job boards to attract candidates, but only 26 percent found successful candidates through this channel, and only 12 percent fill more than half of their jobs this way.

What Works:
o Waste in the search process: 72 percent of candidates identified in social media searches are not even contacted because they are not suitable for the position for some reason—representing a significant degree of waste in the search process.
o Twitter: 37 percent of recruiters say they use Twitter to source candidates, however this is a 19 percent drop from the 2014 survey.
o Social media: In this year’s survey, only 13 percent of recruiters said that they encounter social media restrictions in the office. This is an 18 percent point drop on last year’s results.

Contacting Candidates
o Telephone: Recruiters who pick up the phone to first engage with passive talent have the highest average response rates at 45 percent. However only 5 percent of recruitment professionals pick up the phone to try and reach the talent.
o Messaging: InMails prove to be more successful compared to last year, with over 30 percent of candidates responding to InMail.
o Instant messaging: 65 percent of respondents use instant messaging tools in the recruitment process.

Today’s Recruiter
o Busy: 54 percent of respondents work on fewer than 10 requisitions at any one time.
o Pay Incentives: 63 percent of recruiters received performance related pay, and those who do receive high performance based pay are more likely to fill jobs faster.
o Measurement: Of those who do receive performance related pay, 60 percent are measured primarily on number of hires/placements made.
