Taken as a whole, these findings support the model as a valid system to measure teacher proficiency.

A newly released report outlines two recent studies that address whether the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model is a validated framework to teacher value-added measures (VAMs) in Florida.

Learning Sciences International researchers examined three years of observation data collected in Florida school districts that (1) implemented the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model and (2) augmented the use of the model with the iObservation technology platform. After comparing more than 50,000 teachers’ average observation scores with three years of state VAMs, the researchers found that each teacher’s average observation score was, indeed, positively correlated to the state reading VAM, math VAM, and algebra VAM.

The United States Department of Education also featured a 2015 report that highlighted a pilot program in Pinellas County Public Schools, Florida. The data resulting from the study indicated that implementing professional development based on the Marzano Teacher Evaluation Model was correlated with increased student achievement. Data from the participating schools also showed correlations between observation scores and state VAMs when implemented with fidelity.
