STIR Architecture is the new brand identity for the former Altoon Partners. Now in its fourth decade of practice, the firm has evolved beyond the vision of the founding partners to achieve an international reputation and reach. Led by partners of long tenure, Gary K. Dempster, FAIA, William L. Sebring, AIA and James C. Auld, AIA, the firm is working on a range of large-scale, complex mixed-use projects in the United States, Europe and Asia.
“The firm has had a transition plan in place for many years; early this year the partners realized the opportunity to position the firm for the future with a new brand identity,” said Dempster. “Not looking to the past or to the identities of the current leadership, we embraced a name that embodies the way we practice and our passion for our work.”
“STIR Architecture captures the power that great architecture has to stir the emotions” added Auld. “It was important that our new identity embody the kind of environments we create—vibrant places where people really live, work, and play.”
“STIR Architecture also reflects our approach to architecture and a firm culture which allows us to tackle new challenges, new geographies, and new technologies to create evocative architecture that creates value for our clients,” said Sebring.
Over the last 30+ years, the firm, founded by Ronald A. Altoon, FAIA and the late James F. Porter, FAIA, has become a significant force in the global market for architecture with a right-sized, highly efficient, and agile team. To-date, the firm has served client and community interests in 46 countries, with over $12 Billion in constructed projects. Collaborations with clients have yielded over 100 design and development awards worldwide.
With offices in Los Angeles, California, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and Manila, The Philippines, STIR Architecture has earned an international reputation and clientele for their award-winning retail, residential and mixed-use developments. Among the firm’s current and recent domestic projects are NoHo West, in North Hollywood, CA; The Shops at Summerlin, NV; and The Collection at RiverPark, Oxnard, CA. In Europe, developments including Hoog Catherijne, Utrecht, The Netherlands; Plaza Romania and Bucuresti Mall, Bucharest, Romania, GoodZone, Moscow; and Tarsu, Tarsus, Turkey are in construction or recently completed. In addition, the firm has completed multiple projects in Asia including Ayala Center in Cebu, The Philippines, which was recently awarded a Gold Award of Design & Development Excellence from the International Council of Shopping Centers Asia.
