Lipedema is a chronic, painful fat syndrome disease that occurs mostly in the female population. It can often be misdiagnosed as simple obesity. But, this abnormal accumulation of fat can often be debilitating and affect a person’s mobility. Lipedema mostly affects the legs, but it can also be in the arms as well. If left untreated, it can also lead to other serious medical conditions. Lipedema is not a rare, it affects up to 11% of the female population. However, it is so rarely appreciated that most women with this fat disorder do not know they have it.
Fat Disorders Research Society is a not for profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for all people affected by adipose tissue disorders. FDRS annual congress gathers medical experts from around the world that specialize in fat disorders, which are either rare or do not receive proper recognition.
