On March 31st 2016 Helyx announced completion of a project for the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl), part of the UK’s Ministry of Defence (MOD), that effectively combined Rosoka’s Natural Language Processing (NLP) software with Microsoft SharePoint and Esri’s ArcGIS. It provides a modular, interoperable solution aiming to enhance the MOD’s existing technology investment by providing an enhanced, all-source data analysis system for intelligence, surveillance and enforcement agencies across a global scale, with the findings supported by quantitative evidence.

Additionally, the innovative design, seamlessly segregating the data from the applications and automatically generating metadata, enabled ingest of that data into non-GIS applications; for example to produce information and visually accessible intelligent dashboards (proven in this instance using SharePoint and Tableau).

Rosoka Software provides government intelligence and law enforcement agencies with enhanced metadata from unstructured sources to obtain entity and event extraction, relationship analysis, sentiment analysis and geospatial analysis from over 230 languages, including Arabic, Chinese, English, Indonesian, Korean, Malay, Russian, Tamil, and Urdu.

Helyx provides applied research, capability development and project support for the UK MOD with a particular focus on information and geospatial information systems. Their management, along with their proven information exploitation techniques, advises and assists clients in the Defence, National Security and Public Safety sectors to provide a better understanding of their specific operational environment to enable more timely and intelligent decisions.

Time critical analysis is crucial when peacekeepers, law enforcement, and military personnel are in harm’s way or when answers are needed immediately. This alliance has effectively combined the best available NLP products from Rosoka Software with the proven geospatial expertise of Helyx and Esri’s technology to provide an all-encompassing system to quickly understand events as they occur, analyse actions within a defined area, and provide solutions to make the right decision.

Howard Wilding, Managing Director for Helyx noted, “Over the past few months our organisations have worked effectively to create an efficient, novel capability, using Esri’s ArcGIS and Rosoka’s NLP that can obtain information from diverse sources, to quickly analyse the data, persist metadata and provide leaders with the tools and visualisations to make the right decisions informed by hitherto unavailable insights into their data.”

Gregory Roberts, President and CEO of Rosoka Software stated, “We are proud to be a part of this effort on an international scale with Helyx, and know that our Rosoka Extraction Plus and Rosoka GeoGravy, a geospatial tagging service and gazetteer, are an integral part of this next generation solution that will provide enhanced visualization and geospatial awareness within a specific target area.”
