Radius Networks Powers Eddystone-EID Secure Beacons
Washington, DC (PRWEB) April 14, 2016 -- Today, Radius Networks announced support for Eddystone-EID, a new frame type within the Eddystone beacon family that will allow customers to leverage a more secure beacon format for specific uses.
Beacons that support the Eddystone-EID are available for purchase on the Radius Networks website. Additionally, Radius Networks has updated its MacBeacon software app that allows users to transmit all Eddystone frame types, including Eddystone-EID, from a laptop.
“Our customers require varying degrees of privacy and security when deploying their beacon networks,” said Marc Wallace, CEO and Co-Founder of Radius Networks. “The requirements vary by use case, and user experience trade-offs must be considered, but in some instances security and privacy of the beacon network are paramount. With an Eddystone-EID beacon, enterprises can control access to the beacon network and it’s related content while preventing unauthorized usage and spoofing by third parties.”
One example of where Eddystone-EID will be implemented is in proximity triggered promotions for fan loyalty and ticket check-ins at sporting events. Monumental Sports & Entertainment, owner of the Washington Capitals and Washington Wizards NHL/NBA teams, in collaboration with Radius Networks and Google, will leverage Eddystone-EID for secure check-in to their Monumental Rewards program for fans attending a game.
“Our Monumental Rewards program is loyalty based. So we will have the ability for fans who attend more events and check-in to their account on a regular basis to receive additional benefits,” said Josh Brickman, Vice President of Strategy & Research for Monumental Sports & Entertainment. “Beacons are a great way to help remind fans to check-in while they are at the arena and the addition of Eddystone-EID will help secure the process for fans.”
Other use cases expected to benefit from Eddystone-EID include restaurant loyalty reward programs, classroom attendance check-in at universities and conferences, and transit information systems in major metropolitan cities, among many others.
