Ed Snider, who co-founded the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League and owned the team for nearly 50 years, died on Monday, April 11, at age 83. Snider co-founded the team in 1967, guiding the franchise to eight Stanley Cup appearances and two titles.
The Philadelphia Flyers were one of the first professional sports clients to use WebsiteAlive’s online chat product, and have continued to be one of the company’s premier partners ever since. The entire WebsiteAlive team would like to send its thoughts and prayers to the Snider family and Philadelphia Flyers organization.
Snider and his partners formed the Flyers as an expansion franchise in 1967. At the time, Philadelphia had no hockey tradition to speak of. But in 1974 and 1975, the relatively new team won consecutive Stanley Cup championships—the first expansion team to win one at all, let alone twice. Philadelphia became a hockey town from that day forward, and that’s something WebsiteAlive CEO Adam J. Stass, a Philadelphian, has never forgotten.
Stass had the pleasure of meeting Ed Snider on a few occasions, and stresses the immense impact Snider had on Philadelphia sports. “We all should strive to be as loyal, strong, and dedicated to helping others as Mr. Snider was,” Stass says. “Sports has lost a very good man.”
