Signal360 Supports Eddystone-EID (Ephemeral Identifiers), an Extension of the Open Beacon Format from Google, Focused on Privacy & Security
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 14, 2016 -- The Ephemeral Identifiers (EID) protocol was created by Google with input from Signal360’s development resources as subject matter experts in the mobile proximity marketing industry. These beacon broadcasts change frequently, allowing only authorized clients to decode them, ensuring privacy and security.
Signal360’s beacons are both Eddystone™ and iBeacon™ ready and Signal360 continues to offer the latest in mobile OS cross-platform support in both Android and iOS. Alex Bell, Signal360 Founder and CEO, notes, “We’re excited to continue our work with Google. Privacy and Security have been key components of the Signal360 platform from the beginning. It was only natural to continue our work with the Google team on this important project, ensuring that our beacons support Eddystone-EID, the new privacy/security beacon frame format from Google.”
Red Hawk Casino is Signal360’s first client to publicly announce their support for Eddystone-EID. In general, the Red Hawk app permits casino visitors to create an account to view special offers, earns points and badges, and view key information regarding games, and restaurants. Coming into range of a Signal360 EID enabled beacon will authenticate a user’s presence on the casino floor. This feature unlocks special on-premise promotions within the app that are explicitly not available unless a user is on-site and verified by specific beacons. Matthew Morgan, Vice President of Information Technology at Red Hawk Casino notes, “The privacy and security of our guests is critical. Through the use of a rotating Ephemeral Identifier, Eddystone-EID protects the integrity of our on-premise promotions by preventing beacon spoofing or any unpermitted access.”
Eddystone™ is an open, scalable BLE beacon format, developed to quickly deploy real-world context to end users:
Open: the specification is published openly on GitHub [github.com/google/eddystone] so that manufacturers and developers alike can access, comment, and contribute to it
Robust & extensible: supports multiple types of frames to carry payloads of different forms, making it possible to extend use cases without complicating a simple, out-of-box experience
Cross-platform: published on the web and driven by the community, Eddystone™ is capable of working across Android and iOS so one solution reaches over a billion users
Signal360 will be rolling out Eddystone-EID compliant Eddystone™ beacons to its Enterprise Retail, Hospitality, and Sports clients who need to control access and the security of their systems. Eddystone-EID is just another example of how Google is building a toolkit of the tools and industry standards for the nascent proximity beacon industry.
