PowerSchool Group’s InfoSnap Online Application and School Lottery Solution Improves Transparency and Equity for Kent School District
Folsom, California (PRWEB) April 20, 2016 -- PowerSchool’s InfoSnap online application and school choice lottery solution was selected by Washington’s Kent School District to increase efficiencies and provide transparency in its choice process. The 27,000-student district receives over 1,200 applications a year. Placing the application and transfer process online provides Kent School District with a comprehensive solution including an audit log to collect and manage student enrollment data.
Every February, families fill out forms for students who want to transfer to a school within the district that’s outside of their boundary. “We were handling a tremendous amount of paperwork for both the application and selection process. School administrators invested a significant amount of time to enter all of the data into our system, manually run the transfer lottery, and notify parents by creating and mailing out letters,” said Randy Heath, Executive Director of Student & Family Support Services at Kent School District.
Heath noted that families have been requesting for this process to be online. “We’re a large district and have a one-to-one laptop program in place for our students. Because we consider ourselves a technology-driven district, it was a logical decision to implement the InfoSnap online application and lottery solution as more and more people are expecting to be able to do things online. This will also assist with improving family engagement in the choice process.”
The district runs its school transfer process in March. In the administrative portal, a robust toolset, complete with an audit log, facilitates the daunting waitlist management process. These tools adjust the waitlist as seats are accepted or declined, providing both families and school staff with peace of mind. “We value having a solution in place that keeps an accurate record of when notifications are sent and seats are accepted or declined. Everything is streamlined in a way that positively affects our community and school staff,” said Heath.
Families will be notified in April about the transfer results. “The solution helps ensure that we are utilizing the most current, innovative tools to better serve our school community. We want to attain the highest level of transparency and accountability for our parents, students, and school staff,” said Heath.
