UV disinfection robot proven successful in keeping patients safe

The pioneer in UV disinfection, Tru-D SmartUVC continues to provide the gold standard of care, keeping patients safe by eliminating up to 99.9% of pathogens that can linger in hospital rooms. A recent report by John Boyce, MD compiles current literature on modern technology for improving cleaning and disinfection of environmental surfaces in hospitals. Boyce points out that Tru-D’s CDC multi-center, randomized controlled trial is complete and will demonstrate Tru-D's HAI reduction outcome compared to standard and enhanced surface disinfection methods. According to Boyce, the results of this study should determine the extent to which this technology can reduce hospital-acquired infections and lead to these systems being more widely adopted.

Once the hospital Environmental Services staff cleans a room using traditional methods, Tru-D is brought in to complete the process. Operating from a single position and administering a single cycle of UV light, Tru-D takes the minimum time necessary to disinfect an entire room, including shadowed areas. Tru-D cleans a typical patient room in approximately 20-25 minutes, freeing up the Environmental Services staff for other tasks during the cleaning cycle. Once the cleaning cycle is complete, Tru-D automatically shuts down and sends an audio signal to the operator that disinfection is complete.

Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville, Illinois has recently joined the growing number of hospitals who are investing in Tru-D. Deployed in its ORs as well as isolation discharge rooms, the robot is being used to help prevent the spread of C. diff.
