Instagram got this idea from Facebook, which currently has an algorithm that populates each newsfeed with content based on a user’s previous actions.

Twitter is still in the experimental stage of the algorithm process. Right now users have the option of toggling the timeline personalization feature on or off. This feature places what Twitter thinks are the “best” tweets at the top of their feed.
