In “West Rim, Yosemite” both the great monolith El Capitan and waterfall Bridalveil Falls are prominently featured in an epic landscape from Thom’s Great Outdoors era. The Hudson River and Rocky Mountain Schools of painting heavily influenced Thomas Kinkade’s early work and are exemplified in this piece. His paintings during this period often feature vast, epic landscapes and open vistas where he played with the use of shadows and contrast.
Fascinated by the beauty of nature, Thomas Kinkade focused many masterful works on the US National Parks. It was with great pleasure that earlier in his career, he was designated an Official Artist of the National Park Service.
