New Book from ISTE Empowers Teachers to Support Innovation Age Learning
WASHINGTON, D.C. (PRWEB) April 25, 2016 -- Today, the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE®) unveiled a new book that supports educators who are guiding students in the leap from gaining knowledge to using knowledge. In Innovation Age Learning: Empowering Students by Empowering Teachers, author Sharon “Sam” Sakai-Miller shares her vision for active, constructivist-based learning that yields both stronger innovation skills and guaranteed student success. In this strategy, students are challenged to cultivate empathetic thinking skills to become innovators—turning knowledge into effective real-world solutions.
This book is filled with concrete strategies teachers can use to teach innovation-age aptitude. The ideas are organized by familiar essential skill categories: collaboration, communication, creativity and critical-thinking. Using these valuable takeaways, teachers can intentionally design learning environments that foster collaboration within and outside of school; promote self-expression and interactive, three-dimensional communication; encourage inventiveness by building creative confidence, associational thinking and empathetic thinking skills; and boost critical-thinking skills through the iterative learning process, questioning and experimentation.
Sakai-Miller is the director of technology integration services at the San Lorenzo Unified School District near Oakland, California. After teaching for more than 10 years, she served at three Bay Area county offices of education and as a curriculum coordinator for math, science and instructional technology. As an educational consultant, Sakai-Miller has presented in 18 states and published the MentorToGo Technology Literacy Kit for Teachers.
