Our new partnership will deepen and enhance our current cancer services by providing a new level of expertise and collaboration. -- Jeffrey Le Benger, MD, chairman and chief executive officer of Summit Medical Group
Berkeley Heights, NJ (PRWEB) April 25, 2016
Today, Summit Medical Group (SMG) and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center are proud to announce the launch of their partnership to create the Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center.
An extension of MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper in Camden, Summit Medical Group will now be clinically and operationally integrated with MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston.
MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper joined MD Anderson Cancer Network®, a program of MD Anderson Cancer Center, in 2013. Summit Medical Group is honored to be one of four partner members of the network and is excited to contribute to MD Anderson’s mission to end cancer. This partnership is the first of its kind between MD Anderson and a physician-owned-and-governed multispecialty group.
Through its relationship with MD Anderson Cancer Center, Summit Medical Group will now provide MD Anderson’s world-renowned cancer care to patients at its locations throughout northern New Jersey.
With a special emphasis on continuity of care, the new Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center will provide fully integrated, multidisciplinary cancer care for patients in northern New Jersey. The program, which provides medical oncology, infusion and diagnostic imaging, is already in place at Summit Medical Group’s flagship campus at 1 Diamond Hill Road in Berkeley Heights. Plans are underway to build a state-of-the-art, 130,000-square-foot building adjacent to Summit Medical Group’s new facility at 140 Park Avenue in Florham Park, New Jersey, with future services to include radiation oncology. Groundbreaking is expected at the new site this summer.
“Our new partnership will deepen and enhance our current cancer services by providing a new level of expertise and collaboration,” said Jeffrey Le Benger, MD, chairman and chief executive officer of Summit Medical Group. “Within our multidisciplinary patient-centered healthcare model, Summit Medical Group patients will have access to enhanced cancer treatment, including MD Anderson’s world-renowned treatment protocols, extensive clinical trials and cutting-edge research. We will continue to provide comprehensive cancer care to our patients—from screening and diagnosis to survivorship—preserving the patient-physician relationships that have existed for many years. ”
“New Jersey residents, whether they live in the southern or northern part of the state, now have access to the expertise and top quality care that comes with the No. 1 cancer center in the nation, MD Anderson,” said Adrienne Kirby, Ph.D., FACHE, president and CEO of Cooper University Health Care. “With MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper and the Summit Medical Group MD Anderson Cancer Center, Garden State residents can obtain the very best cancer care close to home.”
“Our partnership with MD Anderson Cancer Center at Cooper has allowed MD Anderson to bring its standard of quality cancer care to patients in south New Jersey, but we will extend our reach even further and deeper into northern communities with SMG as a partner,” said Margaret Row, M.D., vice president, MD Anderson Cancer Network. “Like MD Anderson at Cooper, we have a partner in SMG that shares our mission to eliminate cancer and take an active role in working toward that goal.”
