How Deep Does it Bern? Will Bernie Sanders Take the First Step Towards Making Elections Open to All Parties?
Phoenix, AZ (PRWEB) April 27, 2016 -- Open and free debates are one element of modern campaigns and elections that should be immune to unfair advantages based upon funding and collusion among the established political parties. Yet, the private Commission on Presidential Debates, created in 1987 by the Democratic and Republican parties, has created a debate duopoly that makes it virtually impossible for candidates other than the Republican and Democrat nominees to participate. I am inviting Bernie Sanders to end this fraud in the following letter.
Senator Sanders,
During your campaign, you have gone to great lengths to point out discrimination in the election process, speaking out about suspected voter fraud, disenfranchised voters, and more recently your campaign made the following statement regarding the election in New York:
“We need to be making it easier for people to vote, not inventing arbitrary obstacles—and today’s shameful demonstration must underline the urgent importance of fixing voting laws across the country.”
For more than 40 years the Libertarian Party has fought for voter rights and ballot access. You have the power to take the first step to fix the election process by committing to opening up the presidential debates to include presidential candidates from legitimate parties who are so often shunned by the current two party system. Will you commit to including the Libertarian and other legitimate candidates in the presidential debates if you win the nomination?
