Digital Clinical Assessment Transforms Work of Psychologists Around the Country With Q-interactive From Pearson
New York, NY (PRWEB) April 27, 2016 -- Today Pearson announced new capabilities for Q-interactive, its award-winning, innovative digital system used by psychologists, speech-language pathologists and special education teachers, marking the next milestone in the evolution of digital assessment. Designed for use in schools, clinics, hospitals, private practice and universities, Q-interactive allows clinicians to administer tests via two iPad® mobile digital devices connected with Bluetooth.
Q-interactive improves accuracy, reduces testing time, increases flexibility and allows for more personalized assessment through features including real-time scoring, audio recording, and on-the-fly editing of tests.
Now when clinicians use Q-interactive to deliver the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children® – Fifth Edition (WISC®-V), the leading cognitive assessment for school-aged children, they will have access to fully digital Coding and Symbol Search subtests.Through the power of digital technology, tasks that have played an important role in the history of intelligence testing are now completely reimagined through Q-interactive. An examinee taking the assessment simply taps the tablet, rather than marking a paper response booklet. The system captures responses automatically and provides robust, accurate data in real time, including the duration between each response and automatic error scores. This new capability provides a more engaging experience for individuals taking the assessment and allows the clinician to capture and score responses automatically, receiving immediate and accurate results.
Q-interactive is transforming the work of psychologists around the country. Ken Richter, Ph.D., NCSP, BCaBA, is a school psychologist and district behavior analyst and also in private practice in Florida. Richter, who has worked with the school system for more than 30 years, said the WISC-V “provides the most comprehensive picture of a child's cognitive ability and Q-interactive greatly simplifies administration, is flexible, maintains the interest and especially the focus of the child, automatically moves from basal to ceiling, provides timing, and scores the data automatically and accurately during administration.”
In addition, Richter said that delivering the assessment via iPad has changed the testing experience for students. “Students who have indicated they did not want to be tested immediately respond to the iPad and sense they are in their digital world. Students who have problems with attention are on-task due to the quick pace of item to item and a significant decrease in environmental distractions, requiring only an examiner's swipe with a finger. When asked if they want a break, children almost always indicate that don't need one. Physically and visually the assessment is significantly smoother and maintains a comfortable test environment.”
Concluding, Richter said, “Children love the digital format as do I.”
Launched just over three years ago, Q-interactive is built on a solid foundation of research. Prior to inclusion in the Q-interactive library, each new type of subtest undergoes an equivalency study to evaluate whether scores from Q-interactive testing are interchangeable with those scored from paper-and-pencil testing. The assessment library offers an array of test batteries and subtests for assessing ability, achievement, memory, executive function and language.
“Initially developed nearly 70 years ago, the widely respected Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children delivered on Q-interactive marks the next milestone in the evolution of digital assessment,” said Aurelio Prifitera, Ph.D., managing director of Pearson’s clinical assessment group. “Best of all, when taking an assessment in this new environment, individuals are more engaged and clinicians receive immediate results on which to base their diagnostic impressions and interventions.”
