Voalte, the leader in healthcare communication technology, today announced UK HealthCare, an academic research institution that includes the hospitals and clinics of University of Kentucky, has chosen Voalte Platform™ as the clinical communication standard for the 945-bed health system. Deployment begins this summer at UK Albert B. Chandler Hospital’s Pavilion A, the new 1.2 million-square-foot, 12-story centerpiece of UK HealthCare, with subsequent expansions rolling out Voalte Platform across the enterprise.

UK HealthCare will deploy Android-based Zebra MC40-HC™ smartphones running Voalte software so caregivers inside the hospital can connect via voice call and secure text messaging with physicians and others using personal smartphones outside hospital walls. Voalte Platform will replace legacy wireless phones, and will integrate with Allscripts Sunrise Mobile Care™, a mobile application for the Allscripts Sunrise EHR, Hill-Rom NaviCare™ nurse call, and Lightning Bolt™ physician scheduling systems to send alarms and alerts directly to the appropriate caregiver’s smartphone.

UK HealthCare employs approximately 9,000 physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals, all dedicated to providing the highest-quality patient- and family-centered care. The academic research institution includes a Level 1 trauma center, children’s hospital and Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and adult and pediatric emergency centers. UK HealthCare has earned Magnet status, an award given by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
