1-800-PetMeds® Announces Winner of $2,500 Spay and Neuter Grant
POMPANO BEACH, Fla. (PRWEB) April 29, 2016 -- 1-800-PetMeds®, America’s Largest Pet Pharmacy®, is announcing the winners of its inaugural Spring into Action Spay/Neuter Contest. The contest will provide a $2,500 grant to the winning animal nonprofit group, as well as a total of $1,500 in grants to the second and third-place winners, to facilitate the spaying and neutering of pets in local communities.
The first-place group is Blind Cat Rescue & Sanctuary in St. Pauls, North Carolina. The rescue spayed and neutered more than 1,300 cats in 2015 and will use the grant money to fund surgeries in 2016.
The second-place group, the Community Cat Coalition of Clark County in Las Vegas, Nevada, will receive a $1,000 grant to aid its trap, neuter, return (TNR) program, spaying and neutering stray cats in Las Vegas. The third-place group, Charm City Animal Rescue in Baltimore, Maryland, will receive a $500 grant to aid with community cat spay and neuter.
The 1-800-PetMeds® Spring into Action Spay/Neuter Contest was open to entries from U.S. 501(c)(3) groups that spay and neuter cats and/or dogs from April 1, 2016, through April 14, 2016. Voting was then open April 15, 2016, and continued through April 27, 2016. The three winning groups were selected based on the total number of votes each received.
“As there are up to 70 million stray cats in the United States and 3.4 million cats entering animal shelters each year, we support responsible spaying and neutering to break the cycle of overpopulation,” said Erin Gleeson, outreach specialist at 1-800-PetMeds®. “All three winning groups strive to reduce pet overpopulation and improve the lives of cats in their communities through spay and neuter programs, and we’re proud to support them with these grants.”
The 1-800-PetMeds® Spring into Action Spay/Neuter Contest is run through the PetMeds Cares program. PetMeds Cares organizes product donations to animal shelters and rescues across the U.S. and runs several annual contests, including the Change a Pet’s Life Contest and National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week Contest, to assist animal nonprofit groups.
