Distinguished Educator and Gold Medalists Honored at ARRS 2016

The ARRS 2016 Annual Meeting in Los Angeles was among the organization’s most successful events, attracting medical professionals from around the globe who attended a week’s worth of cutting-edge scientific presentations, international education courses, and stimulating networking events.

Opening Ceremonies Sunday, April 17 included the introduction of the 2016 ARRS Distinguished Educator, Dr. Gerald F. Abbott, associate radiologist at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Gold Medals for Distinguished Service were awarded to:

  • Dr. Thomas H. Berquist, director of the radiology residency and musculoskeletal fellowship programs at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville and professor of radiology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He has served as editor in chief of the American Journal of Roentgenology (AJR) since 2008.
  • Dr. Charles E. Kahn, Jr., professor and vice chairman of radiology at the University of Pennsylvania and senior fellow of Penn’s Institute for Biomedical Informatics and the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics. He has served as assistant editor of AJR and associate editor of Radiology and has been elected fellow of the American College of Radiology and the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine.

The Gold Medal is the ARRS’s highest honor awarded to recipients for distinguished service in radiology and has been presented since 1983.
