Memorial Healthcare System Graduate Medical Education Receives Accreditation For Physical Medicine And Rehabilitation Residency Program; Enrollment Now Open
Hollywood, Fl (PRWEB) April 29, 2016 -- Memorial Healthcare System Graduate Medical Education was recently notified by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) that it has received accreditation for its residency program on Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.
This is the first accreditation of three residency programs that Memorial is currently pursuing, including Pediatrics and Internal Medicine. This accreditation allows the Graduate Medical Education Department to open residency enrollment in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Memorial also is pursuing accreditation in OB/GYN and General Surgery in 2019 and Emergency Medicine in 2020.
“We are looking forward to welcoming our first class of residents for this program. Memorial Rehabilitation Institute is a state-of-the-art acute care facility with a growing rehabilitation presence, now among the top referral centers for rehabilitative medicine in Florida. Equipped with the most advanced rehabilitative equipment, services, and clinical programs, it makes it an ideal place for PM&R residents to train,” said Saima Chaudhry, MD, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer for all Graduate Medical Education programs at Memorial Healthcare System.
“Receiving this accreditation is a testament to the caliber and quality of training and development residents will receive at Memorial, which will positively impact their careers and healthcare in this country” she added.
Program Director Named for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Program
Building infrastructure for a Graduate Medical Education Department requires the addition of program directors who will lead and further develop each residency program. To that end, Memorial Healthcare System has appointed Meilani Mapa, MD, as the program director for the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation residency program.
Dr. Mapa graduated from Northeast Ohio Medical University in Rootstown, Ohio and completed her residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine and a fellowship in brain injury medicine at University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston, Texas.
Dr. Mapa is the Medical Director of Quality and Brain Injury at the Memorial Rehabilitation Institute in Hollywood, Florida. She is currently board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and subspecialty certified in brain injury medicine by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. She also holds certification in medical quality by the American Board of Medical Quality.
