OSIsoft and Illinois Institute of Technology Named Finalist in 2016 ACT-IAC Igniting Innovation Awards
Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) May 02, 2016 -- OSIsoft, LLC, a global leader enabling operational intelligence, today announced their participation as a top 40 finalist in the 2016 Igniting Innovation Awards sponsored by The American Council for Technology and Industry Advisory Council (ACT-IAC). In partnership with the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), OSIsoft developed an innovative and transformative project: the nation’s first Perfect Power microgrid, which provides end-use customers energy on-demand, efficiently and cost-effectively.
“Incorporating smart-sensors into microgrids enables users to act autonomously in order to distribute energy efficiently and upon demand,” said Steve Sarnecki, vice president of federal and public sector at OSIsoft. “This type of technology has the potential to make a large impact beyond its original use.”
The Perfect Power grid is a self-sustaining electricity infrastructure that is a flagship model for other universities, municipalities, developments and all facilities looking to establish more self-sustaining, economical operations. Through an intelligent distribution system and system controllers, the microgrid is able to run efficiently for demand-response. Due to its onsite electricity production, facilities no longer have to rely on the operational state of central grids, thus moving further away from dependence on fossil fuels for energy creation.
“This technology, although intended for use on college campuses, is not limited to academic institutions,” said Dr. Mohammad Shahidehpour, chairman in the electrical and computer engineering department at IIT. “With the advantage of being small and somewhat mobile, microgrids offer a unique capability to government and military agencies that require electricity in remote locations and on-the-go situations.”
The Igniting Innovation Awards are designed to recognize the brightest minds in government IT problem solving, as well as present a forum to showcase their ideas and successes. As a top 40 finalist, OSIsoft and ITT represented a broad spectrum of IT innovations across government, state and local levels.
ACT-IAC announced the winners at their annual Igniting Innovations Awards luncheon on April 25, 2016 in Washington, D.C. For more information on the Perfect Power microgrid, visit http://www.iitmicrogrid.net/.
