ORIGO Education Receives Top Honors in 22nd Annual Best Educational Software Awards
St. Charles, MO (PRWEB) May 04, 2016 -- ORIGO Education has earned a Professional Development/Math Website BESSIE Best Educational Software Award from The ComputED Gazette for Stepping Stones, a comprehensive, web-based core mathematics curriculum for grades K–5. Now in their 22nd year, the BESSIE Awards target innovative, content-rich programs and websites that provide parents and teachers with technology to foster educational excellence. Entries for BESSIE Awards are judged on several different criteria including academic content, technical merit, subject approach, and management system.
“Transitioning to Stepping Stones was easier than previous curriculum changes we have made because of its embedded professional development,” says Sherry Ann Adams, principal at Melba Elementary School, in Idaho. “Our teachers can log in from anywhere to review lesson plans and teaching methods, learn why a concept is important, or to gain a better understanding of the mathematical practices and principles. We’ve particularly found the onsite training and support to be phenomenal.”
Stepping Stones’ online professional development resources help educators learn how to instruct more conceptually by showing teachers how to use open-ended questions and provide opportunities for students to make their own connections. The program’s emphasis is on understanding the “why” and “how” of getting to an answer – which nurtures thinking and reasoning skills – instead of simply memorizing formulas. This embedded online professional learning gives teachers content and pedagogical knowledge when and where they need it.
“We’re honored that education experts continue to recognize ORIGO and the effectiveness of our teaching materials,” said James Burnett, president of ORIGO Education. “This achievement further validates our approach to math education and professional learning, and the success of teachers and students who use our program.”
Written by a team of experts, Stepping Stones delivers multiple ways to differentiate math instruction through a combination of online and printed resources to develop students’ high-order math skills. Stepping Stones is successfully used in more than 100 school districts and by more than 450,000 students across the United States.
