German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County facilitates its largest rescue in the group’s history

Helping shelters and animals that need it most.

“We’ve facilitated some very dramatic rescues over the course of 18 years, but we’ve never taken on so many dogs with both medical and behavioral needs at one time." - Maria Dales, Director at GSROC

On April 4, 2016, San Bernardino Animal Control extracted 33 frightened and filthy German shepherd dogs from a condemned home in Highland, CA. German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County rescued 24 of them from the Devore Animal Shelter, ranging in age from 8 months to 9 years and including several who appeared to have had puppies recently.

German Shepherd Rescue of OC’s director, Maria Dales, stated that this is the largest ‘one-time’ rescue in the non-profit group’s history, “We’ve facilitated some very dramatic rescues over the course of 18 years, but we’ve never taken on so many dogs with both medical and behavioral needs at one time." Over the next 30 days, GSROC will be learning more about each dog’s characteristics and needs with the goal of finding a loving, forever home for each of them. The 501c3 organization successfully rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes between 350 and 400 dogs throughout Southern California each year.

PoundWishes.com, a dynamic and interactive platform for pet rescues and shelters and those willing to help, heard their story and knew they could help. To kick-start their fundraising campaign, PoundWishes selected GSROC as the first recipient of their Wish Pack program, a grant in the amount of $2,000. The Wish Pack is a monthly donation program created to help shelters and rescue organizations like German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County. Most animal shelter and rescue groups have limited resources and PoundWishes helps alleviate their struggles by providing the fundraising and marketing tools to build and maximize their fundraising campaign performance. Donors can also “Grant A PoundWish” and donate to a specific animal in need and/or shelter of their choice, or search the PoundWishes database for adoptable pets.

Currently, the German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County group is seeking financial donations to help offset the skyrocketing costs of medical care and boarding costs while the dogs are being rehabilitated.
