Gilbane and 40 National and Global Partners Join to Celebrate U.S. Industry Safety Week
Providence, Rhode Island (PRWEB) May 04, 2016 -- Safety Week has long been an annual tradition at Gilbane Building Company where the safety of its employees is the company’s highest priority. In celebration of Safety Week 2016, which kicks off industrywide this week, Gilbane Building Company has joined forces with a consortium of 40 national and global construction firms to reaffirm the industry’s commitment to on-the-job safety and maintaining an Incident and Injury-Free (IIF) workplace. This group of leading U.S. engineering and construction firms from the Construction Industry Safety (CISI) group and the Incident and Injury Free CEO (IIF), aims to inspire everyone in the industry to make safety a top priority and reduce worker injury.
“Last year, 80% of Gilbane’s projects realized zero recordable injuries and 95% of our projects had zero lost time injuries, impressive statistics in our industry. By implementing our safety best practices, including effective planning, award winning training and vigilant safety inspections at our job sites around the globe, we are gaining momentum towards our goal of eliminating safety incidents,” said Tony O’Dea, Gilbane vice president and director of corporate safety. “We are very proud of our safety record, but recognize there’s always more we can do. Safety Week reminds us that, despite our safety progress and achievements, one incident is one too many and a workplace free of injuries and incidents is only possible through leadership, ongoing awareness, and personal responsibility.”
Caring is a core value at Gilbane. The “Gilbane Cares” program – a comprehensive, companywide safety program that serves as a constant reminder that everyone (from the highest levels of management to the on-site workforce) has an important role to play in ensuring on-the-job safety. Since Gilbane Cares was implemented in 2008, 17 projects have achieved one million safe hours and one project achieved 17 million safe hours. Gilbane has been awarded the Construction Users Roundtable CISE Safety Award four times between 2006 and 2015 and was recently recognized with the 2015 Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) National Safety Excellence Award for demonstrating extraordinary commitment to safety.
Throughout Safety Week 2016, Gilbane Building Company and its teams will be engaging employees around the Globe in enhanced safety training and awareness activities and joining us in our mission to:
• Thank workers for supporting safety and recognize their efforts to be injury free.
• Increase awareness of the importance of being committed to safety, every day.
• Inspire all of us to share best practices and to work together to strengthen our industry's safety culture.
• Celebrate the need to be injury free.
• Conduct on-site safety awareness activities to support education.
