Festival of Giving Will Nurture Community and Change Lives
Troy, North Carolina (PRWEB) May 05, 2016 -- A day filled with generosity will fulfill needs while also building connections among neighbors. Love Joy United Methodist Church is hosting the Festival of Giving on May 14, offering a variety of opportunities for volunteerism and fellowship. All events will take place on the church grounds and under their historic arbor, located at 1137 Substation Road in Troy.
The Rev. Ronald Scott, pastor of Love Joy United Methodist Church, said, “Love Joy is a loving and caring community known for its ability to reach out and help in the midst of disaster, family crisis or serious illness. By providing free used clothing and affordable flea market items, combined with our musical concerts, we hope to extend that caring attitude while displaying a festival atmosphere for giving to the larger community.”
The community is invited to participate as volunteers and/or participants in the day’s events:
• 7 a.m. – 11 a.m.: Used clothing giveaway
• 7 a.m. – noon: Flea market (sales will be donation only)
• 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.: Runnin’ 2 Give 5K run/walk (registration begins at 8 a.m.; $25 per person race fee, pets are not permitted)
• 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.: Cookout and bake sale (sales will be donation only)
• Noon – 6 p.m.: Four free concerts, including musical groups Mercy’s Well, Roots Revival, Thickety Creek and Bought by Blood
Complete details and registration forms are available online at FestivalOfGiving.com. The greatest need for volunteers is during the morning hours, assisting with the 5K, clothing giveaway and flea market.
All funds raised during the Festival of Giving will be donated to worthy causes. “Our focus on four mission opportunities provides the means to help children and families locally and around the world as we use this festive day to raise money for Montgomery County community food bank, the United Methodist Committee on Relief, the Methodist Home for Children and ZOE Ministry,” said Rev. Scott.
The Festival of Giving is funded in part by an event grant from United Methodist Communications’ Rethink Church initiative as a way to help local United Methodist churches in their efforts to join with their community to make a difference in the world.
