Alliance Healthcare Foundation (AHF), a nonprofit organization that works to advance health and wellness for the poor and underserved in San Diego and Imperial Counties, recently expanded their board and committees to include a new board member and five new committee members across varying disciplines.

AHF’s newest board member, Dr. Rodney Hood, is a member of the Program Committee and has served as a member of the Blue Ribbon Panel for AHF’s annual Innovation Initiative (i2) prior to joining the board. Dr. Hood brings with him years of expertise as a practicing physician as well as in health disparities, medical history and racism, health policy and advocacy, and cultural competency in healthcare. Dr. Hood was the 101st president of the National Medical Association’s Cobb/NMA Institute and currently serves as their vice chairman. He is also the current president & CEO of MultiCultural IPA.

Alliance Healthcare Foundation has also added five new members across several committees. Joining AHF’s Audit Committee is Leonard Dodson, who previously served as the interim CFO for AHF in 2014. Dodson brings with him years of senior experience in the nonprofit healthcare industry and has served as the Controller of Sharp HealthCare, Chief Financial Officer of Rady Children’s Hospital, and Chief Financial Officer of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest.

Dr. Nora Faine, who has served as a member of the Blue Ribbon Committee, recently joined the AHF Program Committee. She is currently medical director at Molina Healthcare, a position she has held since June 2012. In addition to her 25 years of experience in medical leadership roles, she leads the interdisciplinary care teams and participates in clinical operations including coordination of care, case, and utilization management for over 210,000 Molina Healthcare California Medicaid and Medicare members in San Diego and Imperial Counties.

Julie Howell, Senior Health Policy Advisor in the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), has joined the AHF Program Committee. Howell brings 10 years of experience in Washington, DC, where she was an RWJ Foundation Health Policy Fellow from 2002 – 2004, serving on Senator John Kerry’s staff and working with the staffs of the Senate Finance Committee and Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee.

Mary Lewis joined the AHF Financial Committee in addition to her role as the Chief Financial Officer for the City of San Diego. She oversees the Finance Branch of the City, which includes the Office of the City Comptroller, City Treasurer, Debt Management, Risk Management, Financial Management, and Performance and Analytics. Ms. Lewis has served as the Chief Financial Officer of the San Diego City Employees’ Retirement System (SDCERS), which serves 20,000 members and manages trust fund assets of over $6 billion, and as the CFO/COO of Alliance Healthcare Foundation.

Killu Sanborn, Ph.D., brings to the AHF PRI Committee over 25 years of experience of supporting life science and medical technology innovation as a venture debt lender, venture equity investor, banker, executive, entrepreneur, and researcher. She currently serves as the Senior Director of Business Development at Oxford Finance.

“Each member was carefully selected based on their expertise as well as the tangible impact they’ve made throughout their careers,” AHF Chair of Nominations & Governance Committee Dwight Smith said. “Their backgrounds make them uniquely qualified for their roles in AHF, and I look forward to seeing how they apply their expertise to drive current initiatives as well as develop new ones.”

Smith noted that he expects each of these new additions to enrich both the board and the committee with a deeper, more comprehensive knowledge of the industry’s landscape, enabling the team to draw on their past experience to make strategic, impactful decisions that will further the organization’s mission.

“I believe that adding Dr. Hood to our board, as well as the five key members across our committees, will enhance our contributions to the communities we serve in the coming years,” Smith said. “Their combined experience and expertise have already added a level of nuance and understanding that will help us gain actionable insights to further our mission and propel our team forward.”
