On Friday, Infinite Energy CEOs Darin Cook and Rich Blaser announced the company would raise its starting wage to $15 an hour.
In a recent salary review, the company confirmed it offers competitive pay with most employees receiving at or above standard wages for their positions. However, some positions still fell short of the living wage of $15 an hour, and the executives wanted to change that.
“We believe this is a natural application of our company culture and the right thing to do for our employees and our company,” Cook said. “Market rate isn’t a good standard if that wage cannot support an employee’s basic needs.”
The increase will go into effect on June 1 and will apply to all regular full- and part-time employees.
“Offering higher wages is ultimately in the best interest of our company,” Blaser said. “It will help us keep and attract talented employees to act in the best interest of our customers and our company.”
Alachua County Commissioner Ken Cornell is a long-time supporter of enacting higher wages in the area.
"Local companies paying a living wage saves the taxpayers money and creates jobs. Alachua County is fortunate to have leaders like Infinite Energy setting the standard," he said.
In addition to the salary increase, Infinite Energy pays 100 percent of the cost of coverage for employee’s medical, dental, life, and disability insurance. Other benefits include free gym access, tuition reimbursement, 401(k) company match programs and paid volunteer time.
