MoistureShield Composite Decking Adds Durability and Beauty to Casselberry, Florida, Parks
Casselberry, Florida (PRWEB) May 07, 2016 -- With average high temperatures above 70° F year-round, and 117 rainy days per year, the climate in central Florida exacts a toll on outdoor building products. Alternating hot sun and soaking moisture, along with insects, quickly deteriorate exposed wood, and can result in twisted, warped and cracked boards.
Given the region’s demanding environment, the City of Casselberry (near Orlando) has to undertake extensive research to find building materials that will last, and look great in its public works projects. This was the case when the city added a boardwalk to its popular Lake Concord Park in 2009. The five-acre park serves as the artistic and cultural center of Casselberry, so it was crucial that the boardwalk be a first-rate attraction.
To ensure years of use, despite the demands of weather and foot traffic from approximately 10,000 park visitors per year, the city evaluated moisture-resistant composite decking for the boardwalk. Because of its good looks and reputation for durability, MoistureShield composite decking, from Advanced Environmental Recycling Technologies, Inc., (A.E.R.T.) fit the bill perfectly for the nearly 1,400 foot long board walk meandering over the Lake Concord shoreline.
“We verified other successful installations in Florida, and MoistureShield was the only composite we found that had a good track record at the time,” said Kelly Brock, Assistant Public Works Director/City Engineer for the City of Casselberry.
Nearly 7 years after it was installed, Brock notes that: “The boardwalk has held up well, despite full sun year round. The MoistureShield decking is performing much better than some of our pressure treated boardwalk decks.”
In 2013, given the performance success of the Lake Concord boardwalk, the City also specified MoistureShield decking for two fishing piers on North Lake Triplet in its Secret Lake Park. Altogether, nearly 12,000 square feet of MoistureShield composite decking help create exceptional parks for City of Casselberry residents and visitors.
