See the Arts in Action at the 12th Annual Gateway Open Studios Tour
North Brentwood, MD (PRWEB) May 10, 2016 -- Gateway Community Development Corporation (Gateway CDC) presents the 12th Annual Gateway Open Studios Tour on Saturday, May 14, 2016, from 12-5pm. More than 100 artists, studios, galleries, and cultural venues will be showcased making the event one of the largest visual arts experiences in the region.
According to Lashawnda Batts-Bowser, American University Fine Arts Fellow and OST 2016 Coordinator, “This will be one of the most engaging tours in the history of the event. There’s something exciting for every member of the family. In addition to special exhibitions, we’ve added live art demonstrations, musical performances, and kid-friendly activities.”
Featured exhibitions include:
- Boundless Aging & Creativity (Brentwood Arts Exchange at the Gateway Arts Center)
- Sharing Our Stories (Prince George’s African American Museum & Cultural Center)
- Collective Eclecticism by Camilla Schaeffer and Kath Gayle (ReCreative Spaces)
“This is an amazing time of year when all of our stakeholder groups come together to show strong support for our creative economy.” said Anthony Henderson, Chief Administrative Officer of Gateway CDC. “The visibility created for our artists allows them to increase their exposure and sell their work.”
Following the event is an after party and opening reception for Unspeakable, an exhibit featuring the paintings of Leslie Holt from 5-8pm at the 39th Street Gallery. In addition, the DC Fashion Incubator in partnership with Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council will present a pop-up fashion show featuring local designers-in-residence.
