Steel Sports and Brita® Team Up to Give Inner-City Athletes a Chance to Win an All-Expense-Paid Trip to Compete in the National Youth Baseball Championships
HERMOSA BEACH, CALIF. (PRWEB) May 10, 2016 -- Steel Sports is teaming up with the Brita® water filtration brand to give inner city baseball teams a chance to win an all-expense-paid trip to compete in the National Youth Baseball Championships this summer.
Brita, the title sponsor of Steel Sports’ National Youth Baseball Championships, will fund urban youth baseball teams to participate at each of the remaining qualifying tournaments this year being held in cities around the country including Compton, Calif., Dallas, Texas, Baton Rouge, La., and others. After the final qualifiers on June 24-26, one team will be selected to receive an all-expense-paid trip to New York to compete in the National Youth Baseball Championships. This will include flights, hotel accommodations, transportation and meals for the entire team and coaching staff.
“Brita wants to educate children and families about the benefits of drinking water. Steel Sports and the National Youth Baseball Championships are perfect partners to help us to encourage kids, especially children in urban communities, to drink water as their primary hydration source, instead of sugary sports drinks,” Brita Vice President and General Manager Ed Huber said. “We also want to bring young athletes from all different backgrounds together through our national pastime. We strongly believe we need to offer kids more opportunities to play and be healthy.”
“Steel Sports is thrilled Brita wants to expand its National Youth Baseball Championships title sponsorship to include a focus on giving inner-city athletes the same chances to compete as those children in more affluent suburban communities,” Steel Sports CEO David Shapiro said. “This initiative coincides with Steel Sports’ mission to improve the overall youth sports experience. Brita is going to provide a team the experience of a lifetime when they get the opportunity to travel to New York and participate in the Championships being held at Baseball Heaven.”
Washington Nationals manager and Steel Sports advisory board member Dusty Baker knows how baseball helped shape him into the person he is today, and he sees this initiative as an opportunity to provide similar guidance.
“Baseball has been a key ingredient in my life for over 50 years,” Baker said. “The experiences I had as a young athlete helped prepare me for my career as an MLB player and manager, as well as many other endeavors off the field. I’m excited to be a part of this partnership with Brita to help provide life-changing experiences for hundreds of youth ballplayers around the country.”
Major League Baseball’s Urban Youth Academy in Compton, Calif. will be hosting a National Youth Baseball Championships Qualifier at its facility May 28-30. This event will include three Urban Youth Academy teams that will have the opportunity to participate with the support of Brita and African-Americans Building Leadership Excellence (ABLE), The Clorox Company’s employee resource group.
The 2016 National Youth Baseball Championships will be held on July 26-31 at Baseball Heaven in Yaphank, N.Y. The event, founded in 2008 by the late Chicago White Sox vice chairman Eddie Einhorn, brings together 9U-14U qualifiers from around the country to crown national champions. CBS Sports Network broadcasts games worldwide, and MLB.com provides live online streaming.
