Mediaplanet today announces its newest campaign, “Diabetes in America,” hitting newsstands today in, New York, Los Angeles, Denver, North Florida and Washington DC/Baltimore.

One in 10 Americans live with diabetes. There’s never been a more present need for popular awareness, which this campaign aims to spread by breaking down what a diabetes diagnosis means, and which warning signs to be on the look out for. “Diabetes in America” underlines the significance of education in preventing diabetes, particularly Type 2, as well as managing diabetes—whether you’re an Olympic skier, professional ballplayer or the average kid figuring out who you might want to be.

Oakland A’s outfielder and diabetes advocate Sam Fuld graces the cover of the campaign’s print edition. A Type 1 diabetic, Fuld refuses to let the condition to dictate how he lives his life both on and off the field. “I was pretty much alone and fighting the battle by myself—except for my family and medical staff; there weren't any blogs or Twitter handles I could follow,” says Fuld. “Today there are certainly other outlets to help provide support.” Among those resources are the Sam Fuld USF Diabetes Sports Camp and the nonprofit SLAMDiabetes, which “Super Sam” helps to guide in providing athletic opportunities to youngsters with diabetes.

The print component of “Diabetes in America” is distributed within the May 13 edition of USA Today, in New York, Los Angeles, Denver, North Florida and Washington DC/Baltimore, with a circulation of approximately 250,000 copies and an estimated readership of 750,000. Its digital component is distributed nationally, through a vast social media strategy, and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets.
