Reed, president of L-3 Power & Control Systems, has been selected by the United States Navy League as the 2016 recipient of its annual Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz Award. This prestigious honor recognizes an industry leader who has made a major contribution to the nation’s maritime strength, enhanced national security and best exemplifies the leadership, statesmanship and dedication to the country that was exhibited by the award’s namesake, Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz. Mr. Reed will be honored at the U.S. Navy League’s annual Sea-Air-Space Banquet at the Gaylord National Resort and Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland, on May 17, 2016.
Mr. Reed leads a group of three companies within L-3’s Electronic Systems business segment that provides a wide range of integrated power, propulsion and control systems and next-generation products for U.S. Navy surface ships and submarines, as well as select U.S. Coast Guard ships. These state-of-the-art technologies deliver critical power conversion, power distribution and electrical system safety, which enable the Navy’s fleet of major surface ships and submarines to accomplish multipronged missions across the globe.

Prior to joining L-3, Mr. Reed was president of the Advanced Technologies Group at General Atomics where he led various advanced technology initiatives, including the first Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System (EMALS) and Advanced Arresting Gear (AAG) for the CVN 78 aircraft carrier, among many others. A retired naval captain, he was a key contributor to the initial engineering and design of the DDG 51 class destroyer and helped establish the modern-day Naval Sea Systems Command’s Electric Ships Office.
