Significant Speed-ups in Latest MagNet V7.7 from Infolytica Corporation
Montreal, Quebec (PRWEB) May 17, 2016 -- Infolytica Corporation today released new versions of their industry-leading MagNet and ThermNet simulation software. MagNet’s 3D nonlinear electromagnetic problems can be solved significantly faster and with higher accuracy. Imported or native components can easily be made into a coil with just one button click. ThermNet supports new motor cooling options. There are many other significant improvements and new features in this release.
Accounting for nonlinear effects (e.g.: saturation) represents a major challenge in the design of electric motors, transformers and other electromagnetic devices. Accurate modeling and simulation of these devices can be difficult and lengthy, requiring highly detailed material data and balancing solution time versus accuracy via certain mesh settings. MagNet v7.7 introduces a major change that improves nonlinear simulations: greater accuracy in significantly less time than the previous version.
There are three components to the recent speed up, all involving innovations researched and created by Infolytica’s experienced development team and electromagnetic application specialists.
First, MagNet v7.7 offers a new algorithm for Newton tolerance. 3D nonlinear magnetostatic and transient problems finish solving significantly faster than in MagNet v7.6. The solver tolerance can be set to extremely low values, which increases the accuracy of the solution while retaining a reasonable simulation time.
Second, algorithmic parallelism improvements in all 2D and 3D solvers has led to better performance on multicore platforms, resulting in faster simulations. To demonstrate the improvement, a standard linear actuator (see later) is simulated in both MagNet v7.6 and v7.7. The speed-ups in the chart below are relative to the simulation time of a single active core for each version.
Finally, the interpretation of the B-H curve has been improved, resulting in a more robust and faster simulation. There is a better handling of the Rayleigh region in relevant materials.
Without putting any extra burden on the user, these changes result in a more accurate solution since material data are better interpolated.
While typically speed-up time will vary with specific applications and problem setups, there is an expected speedup of 3x to 5x, with some cases being accelerated further.
A linear actuator is simulated with 4 active cores in MagNet versions 7.6 and 7.7. The speed-up represents how much faster the solution is obtained in the latest version as the accuracy is increased (by decreasing the Newton tolerance). The speed-up is nearly 6x faster at 1.00e-05, which will provide a very accurate solution.
Using Testing Electromagnetic Analysis Methods (T.E.A.M.) Problem 13: 3-D Non-Linear Magnetostatic Model from the International Compumag Society (http://www.compumag.org), the same comparison between MagNet v7.6 and v7.7 is done. The results range from a 6.5x to nearly 11x speed-up.
A new easy coil creation feature has been added. By selecting the desired component, the new coil creator feature detects for the user the current path and direction.
Ducts and spraying have been added to ThermNet, allowing for additional cooling options to be explored when simulating thermal aspects of electric motors.
New material libraries have also been added:
- Ferrite Materials, NdFeB Materials and SmCo Materials from Arnold® Magnetic Technologies
- Non-Oriented Steel Materials from POSCO
