Lawrence Sign Renovates North Star Blankets Historical Sign
St.Paul, Minnesota (PRWEB) May 17, 2016 -- In December 2015, the North Star State had a piece of history restored in downtown Minneapolis when the newly restored North Star Blankets sign was installed. The Mill was converted into Lofts in 1999.
“Residents of North Star Lofts loved this sign and were determined to restore it back to its original state and make it part of the nostalgic downtown Minneapolis skyline again,” said Kate Grutzmacher of FirstService Residential who was the Homeowners Association Manager at the time.
Lawrence Sign renovated this sign, previously lit with neon and then spotlights, using a state of the art LED lighting system. The skilled fabrication team also successfully preserved the existing exterior sign structure and expertly meshed in new material to produce heavy duty signage which will last for many years. Lawrence Sign worked in conjunction with Miller Dunwiddie Architects, Encompass, Inc, and Building Restoration Corporation on this project.
Dave Peltier, Vice President of Solutions at Lawrence Sign, said, “The restoration of this sign is due mainly to the perseverance of the North Star Lofts Homeowners Association. It’s exciting to see a historical sign take a dominant place in the Minneapolis skyline again.”
The Mill was built in 1864 and manufactured blankets, scarves and yarn. The signs were installed in the early 1930’s. The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The project team worked closely with the Historical Preservation Committee to ensure compliance with their guidelines during the rebuilding process.
“Lawrence Sign has developed a significant historical signage portfolio,” said Robb Walker, CEO. “Our team provides these unique customers with a stress free experience by working on their behalf with the state and local authorities through the permitting, historical and variance process. Also, the project manager will keep the customer up to date as the sign moves through production and finally to installation. The North Star Blankets historical signage shining brightly again is important to the entire community.”
