Harrisonburg Rescue Squad to Demonstrate Vehicle Extrication, New Equipment at Open House on Saturday, June 4, 2016
Harrisonburg, VA (PRWEB) May 17, 2016 -- On Saturday, June 4th, the Harrisonburg Rescue Squad will host its annual Open House from 11:00am to 3:00pm at their station, located at 1700 Reservoir St. The event is open to the public and children are encouraged to attend.
This year’s Open House will include an extrication demonstration at 1:00pm by Special Operations members with HRS’s 2015 Pierce Velocity Heavy Rescue. Special Operations members will use extrication tools such as cutters and spreaders (“jaws of life”) to cut the vehicle apart and gain access to the inside, just as they would during an actual rescue. Special Operations members will be available before and after the extrication demonstration to answer questions about tools, training, and trucks.
Medical equipment demonstrations will include heart monitors, CPR-assisting devices, and other life-saving tools. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with this equipment, ask questions, and learn how HRS continually strives to provide progressive, high-quality care.
During the Open House, community members are welcome to tour the station and see where volunteers eat, sleep, and train between calls. Ambulances will be open for exploration and questions. Kid-friendly activities and food from the Flavor Savor BBQ truck will be available throughout the afternoon.
HRS has an extensive volunteer history that will be shared with the public during the event and photographs highlighting the agency’s apparatus and membership over its 67 year history will be displayed. Whether community members are interested in seeing how their rescue squad works, meeting the volunteers, touring the apparatus, seeing an extrication demo, learning about membership opportunities or just having a day out with family and friends, there will be something fun for everyone. Visit HRS’s Facebook page (Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, Inc.) for updates on the event as the date approaches.
