About David Cerullo
In 2009, Cerullo spearheaded new initiatives at INSP, in part as the result of an intensified commitment to research. INSP became the first client of the census level (e.g., set top box) audience measurement methodology provided by Rentrak. This revolutionized all phases of INSP scheduling, programming, and advertising. The input from this technology helped lead to significant changes in the schedule, and eventually, in 2010 to the rebranding of INSP with an entertainment focus. INSP became a Nielsen client in 2011.
Incremental growth took place in audiences and distribution. This enabled INSP to compete nationally for audiences and advertisers. Currently, INSP is available in approximately 80 million households through more than 3,000 cable systems, including Comcast, Time Warner Cable, along with AT&T, Verizon, and the DBS platforms.
INSP attracts an intensely loyal audience, with viewers ranking among the leaders in time a network’s viewers watch that network (according to Rentrak ranking ahead almost all high profile networks). According to Nielsen, INSP also consistently ranks among the leaders in time viewers spend watching (measuring the consecutive time viewers watch without changing channels).
Throughout his history, Cerullo’s vision went beyond INSP. He has engaged in a wide variety of other business ventures.
• In 1993, the organization established MediaComm, a for-profit tele-production subsidiary, with services including all phases of production. MediaComm clients have included NASCAR, Charlotte Hornets/Bobcats), Carolina Panthers, CNN, Fox News, Bank of America, and Speed Channel.
• In 1998, the organization launched i-Lifetv, a companion lifestyle digital network. In 2009, this was converted into “Halogen,” a new concept, a network targeting Millennials with socially conscious content. (In 2012, the Halogen subscribers were sold to Participant Media.)
• In 2014, Cerullo began development of CrossRidge, an A-class business complex outside of Charlotte, NC.
The company is now headquartered in Lancaster County, South Carolina (in the Charlotte DMA). INSP is very active in the local community, providing facilities and support for civic groups, schools, businesses and other local organizations.
