eMindful Researchers Selected to Present New Findings At International Congress of Integrative Medicine and Health
Las Vegas, Nevada (PRWEB) May 18, 2016 -- Researchers with eMindful, the leading provider of evidence-based mindfulness programs, have been selected to present new findings at the prestigious International Congress of Integrative Medicine & Health (ICIMH) here today.
Mark Dreusicke, MD and Ruth Q. Wolever, PhD, will report on results from archival data on 1,152 participants in eMindful’s stress and resiliency programs. Dr. Dreusicke consults for eMindful while also conducting research as part of his postdoctoral training. Dr. Wolever is an Associate Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Vanderbilt Schools of Medicine and Nursing, as well as Chief Science Officer for eMindful. Their research found a strong relationship between employees’ perceived stress and workplace productivity, advancing understanding on a key business outcome linked to mindfulness training.
“We all assume that stress has a negative impact on productivity at work, but no studies to date have been designed to quantify this impact for employers,” said Dr. Wolever. “Our findings are also of interest to the academic community who want to understand specifically how stress affects performance.”
The research also suggests that companies see a significant return on investment (ROI) from offering eMindful’s programs. “Companies may have a sense that stress negatively impacts employees which, in turn, has implications on business performance,” explained eMindful CEO Kelley McCabe-Ruff, “but our clients appreciate when we estimate just how much money our programs may be saving them.”
ICIMH is convened by the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health, and is the largest and most competitive academic conference for Integrative Medicine. Drs. Dreusicke and Wolever will present at 3:45 p.m.
Dr. Wolever was involved in a 2011 study on mindfulness and business outcomes, presented at the 32nd Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions of the Society of Behavioral Medicine. It showed a strong correlation between employees with high stress levels and health care costs. Employees in the highest quintile for stress, as measured by the Perceived Stress Scale, had medical claims that exceeded employees in the lowest quintile by nearly $2,000 per year.
