Darlene Weingarten, a self-appointed family historian with a masters degree in education, has complete her new book “Rose Tree Family”: a vivid and entertaining project to present Rosenbaum family members as whole and material individuals, so much more than names on a piece of paper.
Darlene shares that this has been a cathartic and fulfilling experience, for more than just herself. She says, “Relatives have shared research and memories to add to my own experiences. This is an attempt to present family members as unique individuals, not just names on a family tree.”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Darlene Weingarten’s entertaining history is about Louis and Rebecca Rosenbaum, who crossed the Atlantic Ocean around 1860 in sailing ships, perhaps with steam engines. They met and married and had twenty-seven grandchildren. Their oldest daughter, Sarah, married David Benyas, whose brother Simon had eleven children. Sarah’s daughter, Ida, married Maurice Rice, who had nine siblings. Seven generations later, there are probably over one hundred descendants from these three families. Most have prospered.
Darlene Weingarten became a fourth generation member of this family and was a Mustang’s daughter. Her father was an officer in the United States Coast Guard without benefit of a college education and was therefore a “Mustang.” Darlene feels that her childhood was tragic and lonely but very interesting. She lived in five states in the first six years of her life. As a family they moved to Miami when she was twelve, and her life changed for the better. This project has been a walk back in time reading about the exciting years of her adolescence.
Readers who wish to experience this intriguing and personal work can purchase “Rose Tree Family” at bookstores everywhere, or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble.
