CRN's “Distraction” Expert Offers Perspective to NTSB Report On Derailed Amtrak Train
Hamden, CT (PRWEB) May 19, 2016 -- People need to learn “practical strategies to protect against the incredible damage and danger and destruction that can occur in moments of distraction,” said distraction expert, leading psychiatrist and CRN podcast host Dr. Edward Hallowell, following the National Transportation Safety Board’s statement this past Tuesday on last year’s Amtrak train derailment in Philadelphia.
The NTSB report says engineer Brandon Bostian was not using his cellphone and tested negative for drugs and alcohol, but was distracted listening to radio transmissions from another train right before the crash, which killed eight and injured close to 200.
Dr. Hallowell, who hosts a new podcast entitled “Distraction” and is co-author of the New York Times best-seller Driven to Distraction, says in a podcast special episode, “The power of distraction is more of an issue today than it has ever been at any time in history. There are many unpredictable forces that can distract any human being.” Hear the Special Episode of "Distraction."
Dr. Hallowell specializes in distraction and attention issues, including ADHD, and has appeared on numerous television programs including 60 Minutes, Oprah, The Today Show, Good Morning America, Dr. Oz, 20/20 and Dr. Phil. He has also been interviewed in The New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post, Newsweek, Time and U.S. News and World Report.
