Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP continues to bolster its Tax Practice with the addition of William H. Gorrod as a shareholder in the San Francisco and New York offices. Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, Gorrod focused on state and local tax at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP.

Gorrod continues to focus his practice on state and local tax issues, and advises clients on controversy, planning, and compliance matters on a multistate basis. His emphasis is on state and local income and franchise taxes, bank taxes, gross receipts taxes, unincorporated business taxes, sales and use taxes, real estate transfer taxes, and payroll taxes. Gorrod also counsels clients on multistate tax planning, audit defense, administrative appeals, voluntary disclosure agreements, penalty abatements, and amnesties. Gorrod also has experience working with large corporations, flow-through entities, and high net-worth individuals in various industries, including financial services, telecommunications, media, energy, airline, and insurance.

“I am very pleased to welcome Will to the tax team in our San Francisco office,” said G. Michelle Ferreira, managing shareholder of the San Francisco office and a member of the firm’s Tax Practice. “Will brings considerable multi-state tax experience to our firm, which will add to our existing breadth of experience in state and local taxation. The demand for multi-state tax expertise is growing and it is a firm strength, given the multiple U.S. offices where we have a presence.”

Gorrod is the most recent of several strategic state and local tax acquisitions in the last nine months by Greenberg Traurig, which include Glenn Newman in New York, Cris K. O’Neall and C. Stephen Davis in California, and Labry Welty in Texas.

“Clearly, the strength of Greenberg Traurig’s Tax Practice was a key factor in my decision,” said Gorrod. “I was also drawn to the firm’s cross disciplinary platform and the opportunity to work with industry leaders.”

About Greenberg Traurig's Tax Practice

To stay competitive in today's global marketplace, international companies must seek out greater efficiency in their tax planning and compliance, including coordinating tax decisions from country to country. For U.S. operations, an environment of increased scrutiny – including passage of more restrictive legislation and a spike in audit activity at every level – is quickly becoming the norm, likewise spurring a need for greater self-evaluation and for more frequent representation in controversies and litigation with tax authorities. Greenberg Traurig’s multidisciplinary tax team works closely with clients to address these and other tax planning needs, as well as tax controversies and litigation issues.
