In 1980, Bill Howe opened AM/PM Sewer and Drains as a one truck operation with him running plumbing calls throughout the beach community. His vision to grow the company was built on a simple mission of providing qualified San Diego plumbers at affordable rates and ensuring they maintain the highest level of training and customer service. Over 35 years later, Bill Howe remains one of the largest service companies now offering services including restoration, reconstruction, epoxy relining, heating, and air conditioning.
Early on, Bill Howe recognized the need to hire and retain the highest caliber of employee, and provide them with training opportunities and recognition for achievements. Bill Howe pays for all San Diego plumbers employed to attend four-year Plumbing-Heating-Cooling-Contractors’ Journeyman Program, and the heating & air conditioning specialists to attend the two-year certificate program, as well as advanced training, product seminars, and in house training throughout the year.
The companies’ success is evident in the years of service at Bill Howe. Over 40 percent of employees have 5 or more years in service, and 20 percent of the company with 10 plus years. The monthly recognition program offers four different award categories: Above & Beyond, for employees who take that extra step to help customers, the company and their colleagues, Excellence, presented to the employee (or employees) who demonstrates quality craftsmanship, Leading by Example, for the employee who represents the high standards of Bill Howe, and Customer Service, for the employee who delivers exceptional customer Care.
At our company meeting in May, we were proud to award: Raul Miranda for Above & Beyond (A&B), Miguel Rodriguez for Customer Service (CS), Mike Lacey for Excellence (E), and Daniel Heinz for Leading by Example (LBE).
