For the Seventh Consecutive Year BlumShapiro Employees Turn Into Teachers at Webster Hill Elementary School
West Hartford, Connecticut (PRWEB) May 26, 2016 -- Trading in their briefcases and smart phones for lessons plans and worksheets, 20 employees from BlumShapiro will serve as teachers in Junior Achievement’s JA In A Day program at Webster Hill Elementary School in West Hartford.
For the seventh consecutive year, BlumShapiro volunteers will interact with more than 150 Webster Hill students in grades 3-5 in a day filled with interactive lessons about the fundamentals of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
“Our annual participation in JA In A Day builds upon our ongoing commitment to the community to build and sustain financial literacy for our youth,” said Joseph A. Kask, Chief Executive Officer of BlumShapiro. “JA In A Day gives us the opportunity to share our expertise in a fundamental, meaningful and fun way with the Webster Hill Elementary School students. We greatly appreciate the warm welcome we receive from the children, and are impressed with their enthusiasm and involvement in the classroom activities we provide.”
The JA In A Day Elementary School Program consists of curricula that help students understand business and economics. BlumShapiro volunteers will provide lessons and learning tools focused on three areas:
- JA Our City (3rd Grade) studies careers, the skills people need to work in specific careers, and how businesses contribute to a city.
- JA Our Region (4th Grade) introduces students to entrepreneurship and how entrepreneurs use resources to produce goods and services in a community. Students solve problems by weighing risks and rewards.
- JA Our Nation (5th Grade) provides practical information about businesses’ need for individuals who can meet the demands of the job market, including high-growth, high-demand jobs. Students will learn that businesses need workers with skills that are in demand, such as STEM skills–science, technology, engineering and math.
