Step Up SocialTech founder, Artyom Keller, is a yogi, philosopher, seeker of truth, and traveler. He was born in Rostov, Russia in the Soviet Union at the end of the 80’s, moved to South Africa in the 90s. Now he is a proud New Yorker. His cultural exposure started very young while traveling the world, opening a gateway to a myriad of world views; childhood in a Soviet orphanage, he learned to speak English and Zulu in end-apartheid Africa, and he grew up in the melting pot of New York City in a largely Jewish and immigrant Dominican community. His interest in things spiritual started when he learned Jujitsu in 3rd grade and was brought to a Buddhist temple for the first time. Arytom spent a considerable amount of time in Russian Orthodox churches in Moscow, Jewish temples in NYC, and Mosques in Egypt – all before 4th grade. In 6th grade, he started teaching himself about Buddhism, meditation, and began his spiritual practice. Arytom’s practice has expanded to include poetry, art, writing, Reiki, yoga, shamanic traditions, Native American traditions, African traditions, Sufism, and some orthodox practice.
He has been to 26 countries in the 26 years of his life. He has worked with people of all ages, including children and teenagers. He has also worked in a Ghanian orphanage, with Haitian orphans and Kenyan refugees, at an immigrant community center in the Bronx, as well as the International Rescue Committee’s refugee resettlement program in Baltimore.
Step Up SocialTech worked closely with DAASN, an online development and web presence firm located outside Baltimore, Maryland. DAASN designed, developed, and incubated Step Up SocialTech's beginning's with access to resources and mentorship.
