25th May 2016 - Axial3D ( specialists in 3D printed patient-specific anatomical models, today announced the launch of its online ordering service designed to serve the needs of the most time-sensitive clinical teams including trauma, oncology and transplant teams.

Axial3D’s new service streamlines the ordering process into minutes for surgeons and facilitates rapid creation of its bespoke anatomical models, delivered directly to their workplace within days. Clinical teams working to extremely tight deadlines can now benefit from the unprecedented insight provided by these patient-specific diagnostic and preoperative planning aids.

According to Daniel Crawford, Axial3D’s CEO, their bespoke medical models offer clinicians a deeper appreciation of their patient’s ailment or injury beyond what is possible with conventional 2D imaging: “Having access to a patient’s full-scale anatomical model, whether it be a heart or a pelvis, has allowed surgeons to more accurately diagnose and determine treatment for that patient and, in some cases, completely change the expected course of treatment with additional information discovered in the 3D printed model.”

Having been available in beta for a number of months before today’s general release, Axial3D’s intuitive service has been hailed by the clients as a must-try medical aid. Once the patient’s anonymised 2D scans are uploaded, Axial3D automatically renders this data into a fully interactive 3D visualisation. In this way, the surgeon is given the best possible tool to prescribe the needs for their precision model.

One of the beta customers is Mr Jim Ballard, Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon Royal Belfast Hospital for Sick Children, who has been using Axial3D’s models for his more complex cases: “Getting our data onto the online service is quick and easy and the 3D model created on screen provides valuable insight into pathologies. The same model makes it easy to show exactly what pieces of anatomy we want 3D printed and the range of materials and construction methods suit our ever varying needs.
