Colleton River Makes $103,000 Donation to The First Tee of the Lowcountry
Bluffton, SC (PRWEB) June 06, 2016 -- The 2015 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, hosted by Colleton River last July, was a very successful event. As a result Colleton, recently presented The First Tee of the Lowcountry with a $103,000 donation. From the donation, a Colleton River Scholarship Fund was set up with $60,000 put into an annuity so any child that qualifies for the First Tee program will not be turned away. The remaining $43,000 will be used for The First Tee of the Lowcountry’s capital campaign.
The First Tee is an international organization that seeks to build character and instill life-enhancing values for boys and girls through the game of golf. Its programs combine golf training with the teaching of its “Nine Core Values” that apply both to golf and life. The First Tee of the Lowcountry was founded in 2013 with initial programs in Hilton Head, Bluffton and Beaufort, and completion of a dedicated facility in Hilton Head in 2015.
Mike Davis, Executive Director of the First Tee of the Lowcountry said, “The First Tee of The Lowcountry relies upon the generosity of others, particularly golfing communities, to help us deliver programs that affect the lives of our young people. Colleton River’s gift demonstrates how committed they are in seeing us be successful in our endeavor. We are truly grateful to them.”
The U.S. Junior Amateur Championship is a six-day event played by top U.S. and international golfers under the age of 18, and is viewed to be a path for future golf champions, as evidenced by past winners Tiger Woods and Jordan Spieth. Last year, Philip Barbaree, 17, of Shreveport, La., matched the largest comeback in U.S. Junior Amateur Championship history in defeating Andrew Orischak, 16, of Hilton Head Island, S.C., in the 2015 event hosted by Colleton River.
To continue support of The First Tee of the Lowcountry, Colleton will be hosting the 1st Annual First Tee Par 3 tournament with selected first tee players and Colleton River members on May 1st.
