Benzer Pharmacy Introduces Clinical Rotations in Partnership with University of South Florida
Tampa, Florida (PRWEB) June 06, 2016 -- Benzer Pharmacy is providing clinical rotations, a first hand experience to pharmacy students from the University of South Florida (USF).
Benzer Pharmacy has developed a syllabus to provide practical experience and training to Doctor of Pharmacy degree students.
The key objective of this rotation activity is for students to identify key differences between big-box retail and independent pharmacies, gain an in-depth understanding of behind-the-scenes operations of an independent pharmacy, develop clinical knowledge and leadership skills to practice pharmacy in any setting and to understand pro’s and cons of maintaining independent status versus chain.
“This is an exciting milestone for Benzer Pharmacy and we expect to have our first student start early June for a period of six weeks,” says Lindsay Wall, Chief Clinical Officer and Preceptor of Benzer Pharmacy.
“Our first student is part of the graduating class of 2017 and will be doing the Advanced Community Pharmacy Practice Experience with Benzer for credit towards their Doctor of Pharmacy degree,” Lindsay adds.
The goal of the Advanced Community Pharmacy Practice Experience is to provide opportunities for students to build on knowledge and skills acquired through didactic education and introductory pharmacy practice experiences and apply them in direct patient care activities in the community pharmacy setting.
“Our Students will participate in patient care services and patient-focused dispensing functions and we are thrilled that Benzer Pharmacy is providing this platform,” describes Lauren Shaw, USF Academic Services Administrator.
Students will actively participate in the following types of activities: interacting with patients, caregivers, and prescribers; patient counseling, self-care and alternative medicine consults and recommendations; and when possible at the practice site, provision of health and wellness screenings.
USF College of Pharmacy students must have successfully completed Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences and required didactic courses prior to beginning their Advanced Community Pharmacy Practice Experience with Benzer Pharmacy.
This rotation is recommended for pharmacy students who wish to gain an understanding in pharmacy operations in a real-world corporate office setting while gaining critical clinical knowledge in an independent community setting, concurrently.
